Discipleship

One of the most celebrated books of the twentieth century, Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Cost of Discipleship” or simply “Discipleship” needs little introduction. The book is about grace and what it means to truly receive and appreciate grace. Bonhoeffer was upset with the Church in Germany of his day, because he felt that it had grown lazy, unwilling to live lives reflecting the grace received. For him grace is costly, not because we must merit it, but, because receiving grace means that we are in a position to act like God, to live out the Sermon on the Mount. The grace we receive changes us and we must move the way God directs to remain in a position of grace. This is a very captivating book, somewhat theological, but, overall easily accessible and worth the time to read.
