Dante “Divine Comedy”

In this brilliant and epic poem Dante leads us through his vision of the spiritual world. Beginning in Hell (Inferno) with the Latin poet Virgil as his guide he descends into ring after ring populated by the cruel demons inflicting torture on the human residents. At the very heart of Hell he meets Satan frozen in ice. From there he travels through Purgatory (Purgatorio) and lastly ends in Heaven (Paradisio), where he encounters the Saints of the Church and the glory of God. This is a stunning book full of vivid description. The poetic language might be difficult for some, at first; but, the effort is greatly rewarded in a beautiful picture of the hideousness of sin and the unspeakable beauty of glory.
